Background: Futsal is a five a side game, played on an open sided pitch with specific goals and a size 4 football with a reduced bounce. It is played to touchlines and all players are free to enter the penalty area and play the ball over head Height . The initiative is hugely popular in many countries including Brazil and Spain. The game is used as a means to develop technical ability in youngsters. The dynamic of the game mentioned above, highlight key differences to regular 5 a side that we recognise as standard. These factors, simply promote a fast highly skilled and technically demanding game.

The under 10’s took part in their first ever futsal mini league. we played 4 games against teams who all play on a regular basis. The boys lined up in a 1-3 formation with Akil Karawalli as the last man behind Adam, Ali reza and Ammaar. The tactic of the game was to close them down and not give them a moment to settle on the ball.

The first game started at a ferocious pace with end to end football, which for a neutral must have been a pleasure to watch. We went one down but came back to win 4-1. The opposition struggled to get out of their half for long periods and we controlled the game. Ali Reza scored a well deserved hatrick.

The second game was played within 15 mins, the message for the second game was to stick man for man, we kept the players fresh by introducing subs. Adam, Ammar and Husayn would rotate regularly. we played well, creating many opportunities but unfortunately conceded a goal in the last minute.

We changed the line up for the next game. Akil Karawalli played in goal and Jaabir played at the back. SJFA started the game brightly , we dominated possession and created panic with every attack, Akil had a great game in goal and even saved a penalty. We continued to create chances with a number of shots from all players but we couldn’t find a way past their keeper who was determined to keep his team in the game. final score 0-0

In the final game we put up a spirited performance against a very talented and experienced side. Well done to the team to keep battling on despite losing the match 4-0.

Overall a great day with many lessons learnt, we hope to participate in future leagues with the aim of improving the boys skill set and reinforce dribbling passing, accuracy and effective player movement off the ball.
