As the sun tried to break through the grey clouds overlooking the pitch the manager put the squad through a vigorous warm up routine; the conditions were perfect for a good, competitive game of football.
Each squad member played with energy, commitment and desire which was all a coach could ask for. It was clearly evident that the work put in the training sessions was paying dividends with the slick passing game that SJ played.
The first half was played mostly in SJ’s half. SJ had their backs against the wall, the defence and midfield trying to stand firm resoundingly however LNER just had too much quality. The one glimmer of hope for SJ was created by Ali Khatau who cut in from the left and placed his shot agonisingly wide.
In the second half LNER continued from where they left off, peppering the SJ goal with shots from distance and making use of there significant height advantage by putting crosses into the box. The SJ defence had their work cut out and eventually succumbed.
Whilst the score line finished 9-0 to LNER, SJ should be proud of their overall performance. They played with great determination and commitment and the opposition manager also complimented them on their passing game. Considering LNER train three times a week and play competitively every week this was a nice compliment.
Whilst results can be important we have to appreciate that this is a new, exciting journey that our club is embarking. Games against opposition such as LNER create an invaluable platform for the squad to develop.
