Salaam Cup Final Phase

Dear Managers, Coaches, Players, Parents & Community

Salaamun Alaikum

Salaam Cup 2017 kick-off is now less than a week away and the momentum is building up. As mentioned in my speech on Eid Night, this is probably one of the biggest (if not the biggest) sports festival in SJ’s history and without a doubt the most inclusive, both in terms of internal and external participation.

Needless to say, priority and focus is our delivery on the pitch, however this year we are also embracing diversity and harmony by extending our Salaam to the wider community. Therefore whilst I am confident this aspect will be very well taken care of, this is a gentle reminder to all of us that we are the hosts as well as ambassadors for SJ/SJFA both from a sports as well as community & faith perspective. Alhamdulillah, our work and tournament has also been recognised by The FA (click here to read the FA letter) sending their wishes and congratulations.

Salaam Cup is not about one individual or a few individuals, rather about a group of people working together to reach amazing results, not within one community but across with same ethos and philosophy. As the final whistles are blown across the pitches and trophies are lifted, the actual victory is to ensure that we use this platform to generate, maintain and strengthen relationships and ‎use this as an inspiration to build further with other communities.

Behind the scenes the preparations are in 6th gear, involving 100+ volunteers split into various areas of responsibilities. Whilst all Salaamteers will be recognised at some stage, I would like to personally mention a few names here, members of the core project team. This group of remarkable individuals have spent countless hours especially during the last few months and in particular during Mahe Ramadhan to ensure all preparations are in place. We pray to The Almighty to reward them amply for their service to the community.

Saturday is going to be a long day and everything needs to run clockwork. We delivered last year and I am confident we will do so again this year with SJFA taking the lead on ensuring we maintain our timings.
