It was a busy week last week. Not only did the “One Team” have to attend the Muslim News Awards on a school night we also had to attend the Sufra NW London’s fifth anniversary celebrations also on a school night! For those who know Uncle going out on school night does not come easy, so going out on two school nights in one week was going to be a challenge. The event was held last Thursday (26 April) at Bridge Park Leisure Centre, Harrow Road, London.
During the 2017/2018 season SJFA have partnered with Sufra NW London.
Sufra NW London collects and distributes over 50 tonnes of non-perishable food to nearly 4,000 people in absolute crisis. These include a wide range of beneficiaries such as the mentally unwell, the disabled, carers, the unemployed, the elderly and low-income families affected by poverty.
The event also brought together high-profile guests and members of the community to recognise the contribution of supporters, both individuals, organisations and companies across the last 5 years.
The evening started with a great meal dished out by boys and girls from a local scouts group.
As we sat down for the proceedings Mohammed Sadiq Mamdani and Director of the charity, lovingly know as MSM introduced some of the youth that support the charity. They went through the 5 year journey and did a great job to show how the charity had started off just as a thought and ended up being a reality. A real inspiration to all of us (including the youth) in how you can help disadvantaged people who really need the help to get on their feet and become self sufficient.
MSM then continued the evening with handing out the awards to the keys partners who have supported the charity. I was pleasantly surprised when the SJFA was announced as having won an award. Having been a partner for less than a year it was humbling to hear the value it has brought to the local community but also a credit to the SJFA community for getting behind this great initiative which we kicked off back in 2017.
We look forward to continuing a long and prosperous relationship with Sufra and will continue to do food collections and other fund raising initiatives in the future. Videos of the Sufra journey and personal stories can be found here.
Many thanks Sufra for the opportunity to serve.
