Imam Mahdi (A) Tournament

On Sunday 9th December Tier 3 held the Imam Mahdi (A) tournament, which was a great success. It was a 5-a-side tournament with 5 teams in a league who all played each other. Each team had a pre-selected Captain who managed their team, from tactics and substitutions to speaking to the referee and writing up the report. All 5 captains were fantastic on the day and an example of their commitment not only to the matches and the team but to SJFA is shown by the reports they have all sent below.

All the boys played really well giving maximum effort, this is shown in the results of the matches – 80% of the games ended in either a draw or a win by one goal. There were long ranged goals, great interplay and most impressively some incredible goalkeeping!

All the coaches were very impressed with what we saw and hope that the boys enjoyed themselves – the winning team, individual awards and most importantly, the captains reports are below.

Captain Report:

Abbas Hassan Datoo – Black team

The tournament was a fun and nerve racking experience .  As we played as a team we learnt to  stick together and what positions we were good in. This enabled us to play our best as a team.  As we played and won more matches, we grew in confidence.  Everyone had good sportsmanship and every match was a challenge, especially the last one.  I would like to thank all the coaches for putting together this memorable, exciting event.  We really enjoyed and appreciate it

Hamza Mehrali – Red team

I thought that my team played well, especially whilst attacking. I was proud of the team for trying their hardest. We won one match and lost two but never gave up! I can’t wait for the next tournament.

Zain Alibhai – Yellow team

Sunday the 9th December was a very exciting day as i was going to play the Imam Mahdi tournament at SJ. Nobody knew which teams they were going to be in but when I arrived I was told that I was captain of my team . I was surprised and excited and knew I would do my best . I placed everyone in the positions which at first worked really well but during the games I had to make a few changes. As a team we played well. We won one game , drew two and lost to the champions. .Although we came second in the tournament I really enjoyed myself. I want to say a big thank you to all the players and the coaches for giving me this opportunity. Insha allah next time we will try harder.

Deen Pirbhai – Blue team

I thought the Imam Mahdi tournament was a great idea because it encouraged all of us to work in teams and players we don’t usually get to play with. It was a lot of fun and despite our results felt we bonded together as a group.

Jawaad Tajri – White team

I enjoyed last Sunday’s tournament a lot, especially because I was captain and enjoyed managing my team. From it, I learnt how important the captain’s role was and the responsibilities it involves. The tournament was really well-organised. The coaches were very caring and did really well in encouraging the players. I really appreciate the coaches for encouraging us in this tournament as it helped build our confidence. May Allah reward them in this world and the next.
