07 Jan 2017 - 10:00Northwood Park, Chestnut Avenue, Northwood, Middlesex, HA6 1HR

On Saturday 7th January, SJFA Tier 3 under 10s played against Northwood FC.

The SJFA squad was as follows:

Abbas Alloo (GK)
Aqil Karawall
Ali-Rayhan Merali
Alireza Hamir
Ali Dewji
Husayn Ali Abbas Ismail
Hadi al-Hilli
Jaabir Walji
Ammaar Ali Bandali

First half

It was a cold and wet Saturday morning, but the SJFA players were full of spirits and had warmed up. It was great to see Hadi al-Hilli and Ammaar Bandali making their debuts.

After a quick team talk by manager Bruce, the boys were excited and raring to go.

The team started in a 2-1-2-1 formation. The game started well, and there were some really good battles in midfield, with all SJFA players getting stuck in and giving 100%.

After around ten minutes, Northwood took the lead after a good shot which curled into the corner, and then a second from close range.

SJFA started to up their game and showed some more intensity. A cross was put over by Ali Dewji, and Ammaar Bandali was at the far post to tap in on his debut. Shortly after, Northwood scored a third, and at half time the score was 3-1 to Northwood.

Second half

The manager changed the tactics and SJFA started the second half in a 3-1-2 formation. This worked well and SJFA were immediately a threat. Northwood, however, soaked up the pressure and scored a few quick goals.

A number of good chances were missed by SJFA, but Hadi al-Hilli marked his debut with a fine shot from distance which flew past the Northwood keeper.

A special mention to Aqil Karawalli who defended resolutely.

Result

Northwood FC 7 – 2 SJFA
Northwood played well, and it showed us the value of a regular team playing together over a long time. However, I was proud of every SJFA player; they gave 100%, tried their best to the end, and showed signs that they are maturing and learning with every game.

What we learned

  1. We continue to start games well
  2. Tier 3 players are talented, tough, and give 100%
  3. We need to be playing regularly and consistently
  4. We need to work on defence

Selection for games

Every week at The Hive, the coaches will be looking out for two key qualities: ability and attitude. Such players will be invited to play in the games.

It is very important that the players take The Hive practices seriously, and demonstrate their skills every week.

Tier 3 motto

The motto of our Tier this year is: we back our skills, no matter who the opposition. This means that we want the boys to be excellent in their technical abilities and understanding of the game, and they have the confidence to back themselves to deliver those skills no matter what the format, who the opposition, or what surface they play on.
