25 Nov 2017 - 09:30Northwood School, Pinner Rd, Nothwood HA6 1QN

On Saturday 25 November, SJFA Tier 3 had the opportunity of playing against a Northwood FC side for under 10s.

Squad

The team managed by Bruce was:

Suhail Merali (GK)

Ali Ismail
Adam Valjy
Aun Kassam
Sajjad Suleman
Husayn Asghar Gulamhusein
Mikaeel Dadlani
Abbas Ali Ladha

As you can see, 2 out of our 8 players were actually under 9.

First half

We started with a formation of 3-2-1. The defence consisted of Husayn, Mikaeel, and Abbas Ali, Ali and Adam played in midfield, and Sajjad and Aun were the strikers, one at a time.

The recent FA course has really helped us in our coaching. I was able to provide simple instructions and lots of encouragement. This has to be our attitude going forward from all coaches and parents.

In a very entertaining first half, the boys played brilliantly. We went down by a goal, but then Ali Ismail made his trademark runs from midfield and scored two delightful goals, the first a run down the right between two players and a shot into the corner of the goal from a tight angle, and the second down the left, cutting inside to slot past the keeper.

Just before half time we let in a second and the first half finished 2-2.

Second half

After half time, the boys played even better. Suhail was amazing in goal, and Mikaeel, Abbas Ali, and Husayn kept a solid and determined defence, and Sajjad and Aun were holding up the ball well up front.

Adam then produced some magic, dribbling past two defenders in a tight angle, and skilfully flicking it past the keeper to make it 3-1. Ali Ismail then completed his hat-trick with another cut in from the left, shimmy, and then slid the ball under the keeper with his left.

In another SJFA attack, after good work from Ali Ismail, Aun Kassam powerfully slammed home a shot to make it 5-2. Northwood managed to pull a goal back and the game ended 5-3.

Result

Northwood 3 – SJFA 5

Review

The boys played really well, one of the best performances I have seen. Everyone gave 100% and seemed to understand the game a lot better. We have seen a real development in our year 5 players, and a lot of potential in the year 4s.

What we will work on

  • We will try and work on playing out from the back

Our motto: we never stop trying
