With 4-5 1st team regulars missing for this game, it provided the coaches with a great opportunity to check out some other players in this tier in a match situation. Alhamdulillah we are very fortunate in this tier with the depth of quality players that we have and the new players coming in performed very well.

Initially the team struggled with the size of the pitch and the size of the goals in particular. We played 11-a-side on a close to a senior size pitch with very large goals. We struggled to clear our lines from goal kicks and as a direct result of that we were 2 down very quickly. Before the boys could get too down hearted, the ball was played out to Ali Dewji on the left who beat three players on the wing, cut inside, beat another two and then curled a shot into the far bottom corner. The team suddenly had some belief and from then on it was a more competitive game.

Particular mention to Jaabir Walji and Abbas Chandoo in midfield who really put the effort in and were brave in the face of some fierce tackling. They provided some good cover to our defensive three of Alizaman Alibhai, Ali-Rayhan Merali and Aqil Karawalli who also played well as a unit. The team were unfortunate with the next few goals from the opposition all going high into the roof of the net with Hassan Dossa having absolutely no chance. It was a thankless task for our keeper in a goal this size.

Our team rallied and we got back into the game with Ali Khatau scoring a lovely chip and Hassan Merali Dewji confidently putting away a penalty. Some good running by Mohammedmehdi Janmohammed and Husayn Ismail created even more chances which on another day they would have despatched. We lost 11-6 but it did not feel like we were outplayed and we remained competitive throughout.

Final mention to Amir Massoumian. Amir started on the bench and was a model example of the behaviours we look for in a player. He watched the game intently from the sidelines supporting the team. When he came on, he played fantastically covering every blade of grass and was rewarded in the last 5 minutes when he produced a magic finish into the far corner from a pull back. The smile on his face as he turned around to celebrate reminded the coach of why we really do this.
