On Saturday 4th March, we had the opportunity to host Indian Gymkhana teams at The Hive. Our U14 team started off to a shaky start with some of our key defenders off the pitch, leaving Abbas Datoo and Muhammad Gulamhussein with the responsibility of controlling the defence. Unfortunately, due to poor tracking back, we conceded an early goal. 1-0 to Gymkhana.
Nevertheless, the lads kept their heads high and Mahdi Ladha scored a banging equaliser after a couple of chances and substitutions. With some excellent saves pulled off by MZ, we managed to keep the score level. We then had some more chances but didn’t manage to take the lead coming into half-time. The score was 1-1 at half-time.
We returned back to the match with a strong start as Mahdi Ladha once again scored an exceptionally beautiful goal, entertaining the audience. 2-1 to Stanmore. We dominated possession of the ball, and created many more chances than the opposition. Due to superb defending by Abbas Datoo and Sajjadali Janmohammed, we kept the ball mainly in their half. Irfaan Kanji and MJ Virjee controlled the midfield areas playing excellent through-balls to the wingers and striker, whilst also testing the keeper from range. Some great one-two passing led to a great goal by Abbasali and assisted by MJ. 3-1 to Stanmore.
Stanmore, now in full control, scored another with absolute brilliance by Abbasali, dribbling around two defenders and slotting it through the keeper’s legs. 4-1 to Stanmore. Haider Virjee nearly scored from range but his effort was tipped away by the keeper. With a couple minutes left MJ managed to score a final goal for Stanmore, leaving the match at a final result of 5-1 to Stanmore.
